Tips to get your dog ideal weight, fit!

Over 50% of dogs are overweight or obese. Obesity causes many health problems, arthritis, diabetes, kidney disease, ACL injury and reduce your dogs life span. We all want our furry friend to be with us as long as possible.

Here are some tips to keep your dog at ideal weight or help your dog lose weight!

this is what I do for my Chihuahuas,

Daily exercise

- Walks, dogs love going for walks, it's really fun for them.

I usually go for a 30 minute walk (we dont go on walks during the winter)

- Agility, obstacles, jumps, dog walk, teeter totter, tunnel.

I do agility a lot with the dogs during the winter because it's indoors, I usually do it twice a week for 20 minutes.

- Swimming

you can do this at home if you have a bath tub. Swimming keeps your dog at a good body weight and builds muscle mass. This is great for dogs with arthritis, luxating patella etc.

José, he's fit, 4lbs

- Flirt Pole

Your dog is running and jumping to catch the toy. It helps build muscle, coordination, balance, good for dogs with high energy etc.

- Strength exercises

ascend and descend stairs, sit pretty, to increase muscle mass and balance.

- Amount of food

the amount of food you feed your dog plays a big role, feed your dog according to they're body weight, dont overfeed or free feed.

- Limit treats

When your dog asks for a treat it's hard not to give them one but you have to limite treats. My dogs get treats 3-5 times a week, usually when we do exercises.

- Games, Puzzles

The dogs love puzzles, they enjoy them so much. It's physical and mental exercise for your dog. We get Nina Ottoson puzzles, their affordable and great quality.

- Schedule

We have a schedule with each day of the week that says what will do that day so I dont forget. It helps a lot.

Set a goal for your dog and try to do exercise with your dog everyday. You want them to be happy and healthy!

This is our Schedule
