Arthritis is commun for dogs to get once they get older, even young dogs can get it. It's vary painful for them and uncomfortable. Your dog will have a hard time doing any exercise. One of my dogs Hugo has arthritis so I wanted to share with you what I do to help him.
Symptomes
- Lameness
- difficult for your dog to rise and move
- joint stiffness
- bunny hopping gait
- swollen joints, may be warm and tender
- crying, sign of pain
Arthritis may become worse over time if you dont do something to help it.
Tips to improve
Treatment options
- Magnawave therapy, helps get rid of pain, has many benefits
my dog Hugo started his magnawave treatments after 3 treatments he's been doing so much better, now he enjoys walks without being in pain after.
- Massage, messaging your dog in the area will help stimulate blood flow, get rid of pain etc.
(check out the facebook group Your dog and arthritis for more info)
- Heating pad, not a treatment but helps with pain. I use the heating pad on Hugo 4 times a week
Supplements
- Green mussel powder, natural source of glucosamine and chondroitin, helps with inflammation.
- Golden Paste, helps with inflammation, reduces pain etc, has many other benefits.
Diet
A low carb diet is the best option to lower inflammation. Low carb diets include, Raw, dehydrated raw, home cooked diet. Kibble (dog food) is usually high in carbs.
Exercises, weight
It's really important that your dog is ideal weight. Arthritis can be caused by your dog being overweight.
- swimming, the best option, keeps your dog at a good body weight and is great for the whole body. Helps with joints, relieve pain, maintains muscle mass. You can do this in your bath tub at home. Safest workout!
- Walks should be limited, 10 minute walk once a day
Hope this helps!
